It ruins the flavour and leaves a nasty, white, powdery bloom on the surface of the chocolate. The best way to store chocolate is in a cool dry place. A cupboard or a draw is perfectly ok. We store our own chocolates in purpose built draws. Remember that chocolate can absorb flavours from nearby items so avoid keeping chocolate near anything with a strong flavour or aroma.
